So, I finally have come around to starting a blog for life with our beautiful baby girl! Mikayla Yasmeen was born November 4th, 2006 so she is officially 6 months today (May 4th)! I can't get over how time has flown by! Amazing how time flys. Everyday I kept telling myself to start this blog and never did I until now. My husband and I have been married since October 2005. Surviving our first 6 months of newborn-hood has really put our marriage to the test. We've almost killed each other but thankfully we made it through the first 6 months.
Through these 6 months our family has been quite busy. I finished up my Fall semester that I had to miss quite a few weeks from at NYU. We flew to my home (bay area, CA) for Xmas and so that was an experience to travel with a six-week old. I then started back the Spring semester and now I'm finished this week with my graduation ceremony finally on Monday, May 7th! After a very long haul, I'm finally graduating, and from NYU! I still have another class in the summer and then I'm really really done. We had the baby baptized on March 18th at the St. Barnabus Church in the Bronx near us which was very nice. Lauren, a good friend of mine, is the god-mother. Juan Salazar, the husband of my best-friend back home, is the god-father.
I started back to work after maternity leave (which is the hardes thing for a mother to do). Hubby is the stay-at-home-daddy for now until mommy feels Mikayla is ready to be with caretakers (and also when I can afford good care). We had to fly back to CA a few weeks ago for an emergency trip to see my father whom was hospitalized. He had to have an emergency brain surgery and now he's in Rehab. So, that is a whole other topic but it's quite heart breaking and a very tough situation. The baby was alright during this trip although it threw her schedule completely off!
The changes in our life come and go but the ones in our little girl are so exciting to watch. I cherish the moments when I see her really trying to do something new. She reaches for things (especially those things she knows she can't have), she laughs a lot more and also gets quite bratty with an attitude! It's hilarious to see a child so young take on such a strong personality. I already know were going to have problems. She's teething already and sucking on anything she can get her fingers on. She is a terror at night and very tough to put to sleep. We're working on that one. She is barely starting her first solids (although not taking much in yet). I just recently in the last week started her on Cloth Diapers. I felt that it would be a contribution to our decaying earth and plus it's just plain fun! But really it does feel good that I'm not contributing to the billions of diapers per year that take 500 years to decompose. I am using a service for now but hoping at some point will be confident enough to do them myself one day.
Anyhow, I wanted to start our blog so that I could share all the wonderful stories, photos, and videos with my family and friends of our beautiful princess!
